Australian education delegation visits Pune
A 22-member Australian higher education delegation visited Pune to strengthen student mobility and education partnerships with India.

A 22-member Australian higher education delegation visited Pune to strengthen student mobility and deepen education partnerships between Australia and India. The delegation, led by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), held interactions with universities and schools in Pune over two days as part of Austrade's Higher Education Week 2026, according to a release issued on Monday.
The engagements focused on understanding the evolving aspirations of Indian students. They also explored academic collaborations and student pathways. Strengthening institutional ties between Australian and Indian education institutions was another key goal.
Vik Singh, Trade and Investment Commissioner for Austrade, said India was an important and valued education partner for Australia. "Our engagement in Pune is an opportunity to listen to students and institutions, understand their aspirations and explore how Australian and Indian education institutions can build stronger connections," he said. Singh added that they want students to see Australia as a place to discover their future self through world-class education and global career opportunities, not just as a study destination.
The delegation showcased Australia's education offerings and opportunities for Indian students across various disciplines and career pathways. They invited students to explore study opportunities in Australia. Potential academic partnerships, student pathways, and curriculum engagement with educational institutions in Pune were also explored.
Next Steps for the Delegation
Following the visit to Pune, the delegation will participate in the '10th Annual IC3 Conference and Expo'. This event is scheduled at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Australia as a Study Destination
Australia is among the leading destinations for international students. Its universities are recognised globally for education quality, student experience, and academic reputation, the release stated. For students considering this path, understanding the fixtures of the academic calendar and potential stats on graduate outcomes can be crucial parts of the decision-making process.
Austrade provides trade and investment services, market information, and insights. It facilitates international business connections through its global network. The agency also promotes Australian education internationally. It highlights the global relevance, practicality, and quality of Australian education providers. Their focus on innovation, creativity, and future-ready learning is also promoted. Prospective students often research visa pathways, such as how to convert a student visa to a work permit, as part of their long-term planning.
The delegation's activities are part of broader efforts to build educational bridges between the two countries.
