BPSC postpones teacher exam applications
The Bihar Public Service Commission has delayed the start of the online application process for its Teacher Recruitment Examination 4.0, affecting 32,388

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has postponed the online application process for its Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0. The window was scheduled to open on September 1, 2026, but will not begin as planned due to administrative and procedural reasons.
A revised schedule for registration and application submission will be announced shortly. The commission has advised candidates not to treat September 1 as the application opening date.
Recruitment Details and Postponement
The recruitment is being conducted under Advertisement No. 14/2026 for 32,388 school teacher posts in Bihar. The postponement affects only the application schedule; the recruitment process itself remains in place. The written examination date has not been finalised.
Candidates must now wait for the commission to issue fresh dates. The BPSC's current examination calendar still lists the TRE 4.0 with the same vacancy count.
Distribution of Teaching Vacancies
The 32,388 notified vacancies are divided among teaching positions for different school levels. The largest share is for senior secondary teachers.
| Teaching Level | Classes | Number of Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Primary teachers | 1 to 5 | 3,847 |
| Middle school teachers | 6 to 8 | 8,563 |
| Secondary teachers | 9 to 10 | 3,877 |
| Senior secondary teachers | 11 to 12 | 16,101 |
Reasons for the Delay
The postponement comes amid sustained protests by teacher aspirants in Bihar. Candidates had raised concerns over the proposed examination structure, negative marking, and other aspects of the recruitment process.
A significant issue was the examination pattern. Following discussions with protesting candidates, the Bihar government agreed that TRE 4.0 would be conducted in a single phase, rather than multiple stages. Aspirants had argued that a multi-stage process could make recruitment longer.
Potential Increase in Vacancies
While the notified recruitment covers 32,388 posts, the final vacancy figure could be revised upwards. The Bihar government has reportedly increased the number of music teacher vacancies by 111.
If these additional posts are incorporated, the total number of vacancies would rise to 33,385. The revised details are expected to be forwarded to the BPSC, which could be a factor requiring changes to the recruitment framework.
Instructions for Candidates
Applicants should not attempt to submit forms on September 1. They must wait for the revised schedule and any fresh instructions from the BPSC. The commission has not yet announced a new application start date.
Candidates should keep their educational and eligibility documents ready. They are advised to rely on updates from the official BPSC website rather than unverified information on social media.
The notification for these 32,388 posts was issued on August 18 after months of demands from aspirants for clarity. Until a new date is announced, the September 1 deadline is cancelled for practical purposes.
